About RSNL

Nowadays, BRICs countries with large population and large land area are industrialized, so that a huge amount of energy is requested in the future. But, there is some gap between energy supply and demand in the future. And, since the 1st industrial revolution in 18th century which was accelerated by the invention of water steam engine, steel refinery, and machine texturing, the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration drastically increased due to the combustion of fossil energies such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas. The increased concentration induced global warming, which made climate change in the Earth.

For overcoming this two issues in the energy sector (gap between energy supply and demand, climate change), technology-based approach is the single solution. Therefore, advanced energy technologies such as energy efficiency, renewable, clean fossil energy, and nuclear energy technologies must be researched and developed. In addition to advanced energy devices such as lithium battery, solar cell, fuel cell, supercapacitor, and so on, advanced energy process technolgies  should be developed for well treating or solving the two issues. Advanced energy process includes heterogeneous catalysis, separation, and bio processes. Especially, for developing advanced heterogeneous catalysis and separation processes, reaction & separation nanomaterials such nanosize catalysts, nanoprous adsorbents, and nanoporous membranes should be synthesized and developed.

In our laboratory, advanced reaction & separation nanomaterials (RSN) such as nanoprous adsorbents, nanosize catalysts and nanoporous membranes are designed and synthesized for heterogeneous catalysis and separation. We already industrialized some zeolite membranes and modules for solvent dehydration and microblade for semiconductor package dicing.  Nowadays, we are focusing our R&D capability to develop high temperature dehydration membrane, acid-stable dehydration membrane, CO2 superflux membrane, high temperature H2 membrane, N2 selective membrane, nanosize zeolite-polymer hybrid membrane, nanofilter membrane for bio and medicine industries. Also, we are extending our research activities to develop high performance separators and ion transport membranes for secondary batteries, fuel cells and water electrolysis.
